                          Primary Campus Choir

The choral program at Kuranda College consists of a primary campus choir for students in years 1-6. Rehearsals in 2023 will take place during second break on Thursday 1:10-1:40. Choir students are expected to perform the national anthem at school assembly each week and perform at a number of events throughout the year including Student Investiture, Anzac Day, Naidoc Week, Awards Night and Arts Extravaganza. There are opportunities for students to perform solos with the choir at some events. Students are selected for these roles based on aptitude, maturity, attendance and in some cases audition. In 2023 the choir will compete in the Cairns and District Junior Eisteddfod which will require some after school rehearsals throughout term 2.

                          Instrumental Music Program 2023

KDSC is offering students the opportunity to undertake study and practical application of playing a musical instrument with a qualified teacher.  All students in Years 4 and above in 2023 are invited to apply for this if they can demonstrate:

  • A commitment to daily home practice (minimum 15 minutes a day)
  • Above average behaviour in class and in the playground
  • Regular school attendance
  • Homework tasks and set assignments are completed or attempted

The applicants who meet the selected criteria will participate in the program.

Students can choose from the following instruments.  Places for each instrument are limited.

  • Flute
  • Saxophone
  • Clarinet
  • Trumpet
  • Percussion (glockenspiel and snare drum – not drum kit)

Successful applicants will receive a weekly half hour lesson on their chosen instrument every week, and will be expected to practice their instrument at home every day.  Students who do not attend lessons or complete the required practice may be asked to leave the program.

After one year of tuition, students are encouraged to purchase their own instrument.  Students who do not purchase their own instrument after a year of tuition may not be able to hire an instrument for a second year as preference will be given to new students.

The cost of the program for 2023 includes instrument hire, servicing and sheet music.

    The cost is
  • $55 in program fees
  • $50 additional if loaning a school instrument

For further information please contact the school.
