At Kuranda District State College we believe a high-quality rigorous Junior Secondary program is critical for ensuring that students are provided the necessary knowledge and skills in order to be successful in Year 11 & 12.

In Year 7 and 8 students are required to be taught all learning areas and subjects of the Australian Curriculum over a two year period. In Year 7 and 8 your child will be taught the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences: Geography, History, Economics and Business and Civics and Citizenship.
  • Health
  • Physical Education
  • The Arts: Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Media
  • Technology: Design and Digital
  • Languages other than English (LOTE)

As your child works towards senior schooling, in Year 9 and 10, your child will have more choice about the subjects they will learn. All Year 9 and 10 students will be taught the core subjects of:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • History
  • Health
  • Physical Education

Depending on the subjects that will complete for Year 11 and 12 your child will have the opportunity to choose two elective subjects from the learning areas of The Arts, Technologies or Humanities.
