Building upon strong foundations
Our College capitalises on the strong foundations in Prep
to extend into years 1-3. Literacy and
Numeracy is the core business of our College, in every room, in all eight key
learning areas, for every student, for every teacher. With this as our
foundation, we are able to provide quality learning pathways for your child.
In Years 1 to 3:
- we
implement explicit teaching practices in the delivery of reading, writing and
numeracy on a daily basis, using a variety of methods, strategies and
approaches
- consolidation
of core concepts is a daily focus
- teachers
continually monitor and assess to identify individual students’ learning needs
- teachers
are supported through coaching and mentoring to maintain high professional
standards.
Expanding thinking into Years 4-6
Learning of the foundations skills of literacy and
numeracy are consolidated in upper primary.
Learning is further expanded into years 4-6 to include the development
of more sophisticated skills to enable greater understanding across learning
areas.
College students in Years 4 to 6 also:
- specialist
teachers providing programs in Health and Physical Education, Music, LOTE and
Drama
- engage
in opportunities to access the Secondary Campus facilities of Music, Science,
Sporting facilities, Kitchens and Design and Technology
- may
have the opportunity to engage in leadership camps
As a College we have a unique opportunity to provide a
seamless and positive transition into Junior Secondary schooling. Our
transition program prepares students for the organisational, academic, social
and emotional demands of Junior Secondary.
